They were reportedly linked to real-money betting and
payment facilities. Are not per se a basis for a criminal offence by every user
and operator.
The following companies were identified to support the work
of the companies:
The investigation reportedly had these businesses tied up in
these businessman's business interests:
Marta Marts SMC Pvt Ltd
• Rifamart
SMC Pvt Ltd
• Martspay.com
According to the report, total credit turnover of these
three companies is Rs47.78 billion. Reports indicate that companies
pretentiously claiming to be good commercial enterprises were used for the
receiving and transference of funds related to online gambling.
All allegations made against these companies are those of
the companies and not a court of law. The final list of all the 11 companies
has to be cross-checked with FIR and the official records before it is
released.
Rs119.93 Billion turnover and Rs8.586 Billion
transactions were made.
The 11
companies as a whole registered Rs119.93 billion credits and Rs118.80 billion
debits in their turnover, The News International reported.
In addition, investigators reportedly discovered some
Rs8.586 billion in five branchless collection accounts with a total of about
Rs10.49 million in transactions.
Numbers are the monetary transactions that are being
recorded in the bookkeeping records. They do not establish that all of the
amounts were stolen or seized and subsequently recovered or blocked. None of
the above reports had a final court judgement, resulting in a fine of Rs119.93
billion.
The reports shared by the ARY News and ProPakistani on 8th
October 2026 indicate that more than 100 accounts of mobile- wallet aggregators
had been closed following the notices received by them by the FIA and others
had been suspended under the FIA's probe. There were also reports of payment
and settlement delays on some merchant and intermediary channels connected to
Easypaisa.
These are the payment systems that were part of this more
general investigation:
JazzCash: How many accounts are being closed or suspended in
the accounts of aggregators?
Easypaisa: Complain of disruptions or delays in some
payment-processing and settlement processes.
• Bank
transfers: Company accounts and branchless collection accounts being explored.
Authorities reported that there are two alleged settlement
routes they will take a look at: USDT and cryptocurrencies.
Informal arrangement of money transfer including suspected
money transfer through Hawala/hundi and case reporting.
None of the JazzCash/Easypaisa accounts have been blocked
for these reasons. It is best to get information about their accounts from
official communication from payment service providers for regular customers.
PTA Action Against Gambling Applications
Moreover, ProPakistani also reported that the Pakistan
Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has suspended 46 illegal gambling and
unregistered trading apps. This is not a recognised turnover, hence do not
confuse with the financial turnover in the FIA case.
Public Advisory
The users need to avoid transferring money to websites not
trusted, sharing wallet PINs or the one-time password and providing identity
documents to the suspicious operators. If you are impacted by any suspicious
transaction, keep receipts, transaction ID and account statements and contact
your bank or wallet provider via the official means.
Conclusion
The investigation by FIA brings to light the ‘alleged online
gambling' and ‘dubious financial transactions and online payment system in
Pakistan'. While Rs119.93 billion in credit turnover is significant, as is the
number of collection-account transactions, which hit Rs8.586 billion, and the
number of aggregator accounts that were closed (in excess of 100), there is an
issue with reporting these figures correctly.
The investigation is subject to the law. The importance of
clearing between allegations and account restrictions, whether through volume
or final findings, is paramount to ensure the continuity of people's awareness
and to avoid unfair accusations of individuals/entities.
